Mr. Brown and his wild bats

Mr. Brown's Outdoor Service Learning class have been working hard to build bat boxes to help decrease the number of gnats on campus. According to student Drew Newgaard, "It's a fun way to feel like I am making BRS a better place for everyone who lives and visits here!"

Walnut Creek (9/15/07)

Walnut Creek back to back for two weekends in a row, and each time more fun. We rode some different trails this time and really ripped it up out there. Royal Shore (Rob Shore Jr.) was getting air off of every little root and rock that he came across. Alex Stratmann and Joe Hemphill were just being the nasty mountain bikers that they are. Jeff Meadows really did great and at this rate he will be pro in no time. Riley Howard took his usual nasty spill but toughed it out like a man.

Falling Creek Bike Race Bedford VA

The FALLING CREEK MTN BIKE RACE

The BRS mtn biking team struck early and struck hard! The 10 boys raced great and we even had a couple of guys stand on the podium. Saturday was a proud day to be a Baron. Congrats to these guys and the hard work they put into training and competing at Saturday's race! Look for us at the Poor Mtn Hill Climb on October 7th!

All Freshman Trip to Outward Bound NC

Last Friday 40 of the boys in the freshman class headed down to North Carolina for a four day mountain adventure. The students hiked, bushwacked, rock climbed, rappeled and camped under the shadow of Table Rock. The weather was perfect ranging from 50-80 degrees and a lot of fun was had by all. This is the third year that BRS has taken the freshman to OBNC and every year the trip gets better and better!

Walnut Creek 9/9/07

The mountain biking trip on Sunday, led by Mr. Deane, was amazing. We kicked off the mountain biking year at Walnut Creek with 5 new students and 2 returning. We rode a little over 2 hours through all sorts of trails, rivers, and whoopdee-doos. Several of us had never been mountain biking before but everyone still did great. By the end, everyone was still as positive as ever and caked with mud, dirt and in some cases a little bit of blood. To top it off, we stopped at a Chinese restaurant on the way back. I was completely satisfied with this weekend's trips and I cannot wait for the next trip.

Who runs this blog?

Hey Blue Ridge students, alumni, faculty, and everyone else. This is the new Blue Ridge School Outdoor Program blog. Here you can keep up to date with all the outdoor activities and events that have, are, and will occur. This site is run by me, Daniel Desenberg, I am a senior at BRS, and I have a passion for the outdoors. This blog is part of my participation in a year-long, independent study in Mr. LaVoie's Advanced Outdoor Leadership Class. Please check this site often to keep up to date and give me any ideas or pictures that you may want to be posted from your outdoor adventures.

Keepin ya posted,

Daniel Desenberg

Welcome to BRS
